Detective Division
The Town of Poughkeepsie Detective Division is headed by
Captain Paul Lecomte. The division is staffed with two Detective
Sergeants, twelve detectives and three civilian staff members.
The Detective Division is further defined with an Investigative
Unit; an Identification and Records Division and an active Juvenile
Aid Bureau. (Please refer to the individual pages with respect to
the Juvenile and Identification functions)
The Detective Division's primary function is in support of the
Uniform Patrol Division in following through on investigations and
complaints initially answered by the response of the Patrol
Division. Most of these investigations are of a felony nature.
Some members of the division are also trained and participate in
department functions such as S.W.A.T., Hostage Negotiations,
Domestic Violence and some are certified New York State police
instructors.
The Detective Division is completely computerized which enables
supervisors to monitor and manage case progress and also allows
detectives to integrate investigations. This computerization also
allows the use of a "Lead Desk" program when handling major case
investigations.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Detective Division works very closely with
all other law enforcement entities on a local and federal level
which results in the closing of numerous investigations ranging from
armed robberies to check and credit card fraud.
