Identification
Division
The Identification Division (I.D.) is a specialized unit within the
Detective Bureau which is staffed with two
detectives and one
civilian clerk. The primary function of the Identification Division
is to detect, collect and memorialize physical evidence present at a
crime scene. Identification Detectives work closely with the Crime
Scene Technicians in the uniformed patrol division who have received
specialized training in the processing of crime scenes.
The Identification Division has recently received funding from
Senator Saland and will be purchasing new equipment specifically
designed for crime scene and evidence processing, including DNA
evidence. They also received a federal grant and have purchased a
new evidence van that will be specially customized with equipment
needs for the purpose of processing crime scenes.
The Identification Division is also responsible for all department
record and evidence maintenance. They track and monitor the
departments computerized warrant system.
Additional duties include department statistical information and
fingerprinting Town of Poughkeepsie residents for the purpose of
employment, adoption and licensing issues.
Identification personnel are in constant contact and work well with
similar divisions from other agencies, including local and county
courts and the District Attorneys Office.
