the Chief of Police:
It is a
pleasure to invite you to browse the Town of Poughkeepsie Police
Department web site.
The department is a full-time civil service department consisting
of 87 sworn officers and 12 civilians. Department operations are
under the command of the Chief of Police, with Uniform and Detective
Divisions supervised by Police Captains. We offer a variety of
special services including DARE, Crime Prevention, Traffic
Enforcement, a Juvenile Aid Bureau, a K-9 Unit, a Crisis Negotiation
Team, a Special Weapons and Tactics Team, a Computer and Technical
Division and a Vehicle Accident Investigation and Reconstruction
Unit.
The police department provides safety and security to over 42,000
residents, patrols 143 miles of roads and provides services to major
malls including the Poughkeepsie Galleria and South Hills Mall.
Additionally, the department is responsible for the safety and
security of the students and property of Vassar, Marist and Dutchess
