The Crime Scene Technician ("C.S.T. ") Unit is comprised of members of the uniformed patrol division. Each C.S.T. must complete a 40-hour basic "Crime Scene Technician" course. In addition, C.S.T.s take advanced courses offered by the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in such areas as basic and advanced digital photography, latent fingerprint development and classification, collection of D.N.A. evidence, and evidence handling. Crime Scene Technicians are assigned to each Patrol Squad and the Identification Bureau.
